My adolescent daughter used to follow me everywhere. Anything I'd ask her to do, there she was, trying her little heart out. I'd call "do you want to help?" and she'd be at my elbow. Now she's a teenager and not so compliant. Odd.
Puppies, and recently adopted dogs, are often the same way. "I don't need to learn to call them to come - they never leave my side." Most of the time, this too shall pass.
Certainly there are velcro dogs - dogs who never leave your side, but even those get excited about a squirrel in the road or another dog across the street, or a kid riding a bicycle past. The key is to put a good strong solid 'come' on your dog when the distractions are low and the motivation is high.
There are many many, as I call them, 'games' you can play to get your dog to come, but the key to all of them is motivation.
"Come" has to be the best choice your dog has ever made. Every single time. Any time the dog or puppy comes to you, it's party time! Give praise, give a treat, let them know you are So very happy they came to you.
If you are mad, if you had to chase them around the yard for an hour - Fake it - it STILL has to be a good choice they made. If I thought you were going to end my fun and yell at me, I wouldn't come to you either.
Come equals a good time. Every time.
